Who is The Imperfect Sojourner? An Introduction.

Image
Hi There! Lisa here. The Imperfect Sojourner. I figured it was probably time I properly introduced myself! I'm a wife and mother in my thirties from the beautiful green island of Ireland. I'm 12 years married to Mr. Sojourner and together we have two Little Sojourners. I enjoy time with my little family; we are total homebodies so for us our favourite things to do together are local walks, exploring, out for chats coffees and pastries, singing our favourite songs, getting on the floor around a puzzle, reading books or colouring pictures together, cooking our favourite food and watching a movie and we also love time catching up with our wider family and friends. Personally, I don't get a lot of 'me' time in this season of life so my dream hobbies are mostly on hold! However, I enjoy walking, reading, writing, being creative, taking photographs, coffees with friends, though most of the time I have little company with me in those, haha! I woul...

The Bible In 6 Months: Preparing Our Hearts (Part 2)

Click HERE to read Part 1 In Part 1 we looked at The Word through the eyes of the writer of Psalm 119 which is the center Psalm in the Bible and is all about Gods Word Today I want to just briefly share a couple things that have been very important to me in setting my heart as I've read the scriptures or approached The Lord in any way even in my thoughts about Him. I am writing them in case they help or encourage anyone reading along especially through the Bible in 6 months. I won't go in to the back story of these lessons to me of The Lord for now... 1. Do not be offended with or fall away on account of God. In Matthew 11:6 Jesus says "and how blessed is anyone not offended by me!" Other translations say "does not stumble on account of me" or "do not turn away because of me" Here Jesus is talking to the disciples of John the Baptist who have come to see if He really is doing all the things they have heard. Initially it looks l...

The Bible In 6 Months: Preparing Our Hearts (Part 1)

This coming Monday; 7th January 2019, I am starting to read the Bible from front cover to back cover in 6 months with friends. Some of you are reading along with this plan also. I'm so excited for what The Lord will do in our hearts as we immerse ourselves in his Word in context and in volume. Follow along daily on Facebook where each morning the readings for that day will be posted. I said in the introduction to The I mperfect Sojourner  "How we sojourn is important. For the Christ follower we are to be made in to His likeness... He wants us to know His heart and His Plans and to become in His likeness!" To walk like this out we need to be in The Word daily. However we also have to have an approach to the Word that is correct or else this is just another religious exercise! We must view this as relational at the very core and remind ourselves we are getting to know a person through our reading. We need a heart that is open to the lessons in the Word and to it...

Coordinates: Looking in to the New Year!

Image
As we jump in to a new year we tend to have ideas about who we want to be, what we want to do and where we want to go. Some of those are short term and some are long term but we are planning out our next steps for this year! However, It's hard to map a journey to where you want to be if you don't know where you are at RIGHT NOW! First, we need to be true to where we are actually at in life personally; emotionally, spiritually and  practically! Then we can make a more realistic journey map to where we would like to be and to WHO we would like to become over this coming year. So much of our life involves comparison... comparing ourselves to other people. Our looks, achievements, careers, homes, cars, bank accounts, maybe even our husband and kids ;) but really the only comparison that is correct and that should be allowable is that between ourselves today and ourselves yesterday. If WE are growing, changing, improving, becoming more in the likeness of Christ than ...

THE BIBLE IN 6 MONTHS

I mention in the introduction post how vital immersion in the scriptures is for us sojourners who seek to know the heart, nature and character of God and who want to grow in to his likeness. So I'd like to invite anyone who may be interested; to read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation straight through and in order over 6 months. I have some friends with whom we have decided to start 2019 this way... then we each have mentioned it to others who are excited to do the same so I decided I would just share the daily reading plans here for ease of reading and sharing and even discussion if that is wanted. We are starting January 7th 2019. I will post each days scriptures on Facebook first thing each morning. I've started the year a couple times with Bible90 and it's awesome for focus and clarity. so I'm excited! The Imperfect Sojourner x

Hi! You're very Welcome.

Hi! Lisa here... I am The Imperfect Sojourner! Welcome to my table; pull up a chair, pour a cuppa, break some bread and find love and acceptance right where you are now and encouragement for where you are headed on your journey through this life. A little background: I am a follower of Jesus. I believe as The Scriptures say; that we are in a fallen reality now but that His Plan is for the restoration of the earth under His Leadership. Therefore, I use the word sojourner because it means a temporary stay or a person passing through. This place is for fellow sojourners who want to live this life in light of that reality. How we sojourn is important. For the Christ follower we are to be made in to His likeness. I have concluded that above all our other achievements this is key  - though our 'doing' is important... our 'being' and the place from which we do is the critical backbone. You can do all the right things and still miss it! The pharisees are a good example...
